Halstead Fire Update
Well, it has been 10 days since I last did an entry on this topic. The latest update indicates the fire is just under 90,000 acres. The Sawtooth Camera images from Stanley show lots of smoke and evidently, Challis and Salmon are even worse. What worries us now is that they are discussing what to do if the power supply to Stanley is interrupted by the fires. The big power lines that feed the city are North of 21 and that area may come into play if the fire continues to progress in a south eastern direction.
All of the residents up and down the Custer Motorway have been ordered to evacuate and the closure now extends almost to Clayton up the Squaw Creek Road area. I thought that maybe they could stop it at the Custer Motorway, but if it is hot and spotting ahead then it could jump over the road and river and continue up the ridges to the Custer Overlook.

I’ve been checking the site 3-4 times a day and the news is rarely good. It was stated somewhere that the fire may not stop until the fall snows arrive. Hopefully, Stanley and Lower Stanley will be spared from the fire. It is a special place . . .
