Team Kentucky?
This has nothing to with basketball or any mainstream sports for that matter, but rather leaving your mark to show where you’ve been and what you’ve accomplished. Back in 2008, I got a photo from a friend in Idaho that shows him sitting beside a log that has been cut with a chainsaw. The flat end of the log has a “TT” cut into it. See the photo below.
I never really thought much about the “TT” in the log until my ride with Jesse during 2010. We were navigating some trails that originate at Stanley Lake (Elk Mountain Loop Trail) and saw several logs with the “TT” carved in the end. I knew immediately who was responsible for the trail clean up in that area. Dozens of logs had been cut and removed so that the single track was open for bicyclist and those on motorcycles as well.
The next day I met another friend that “summers” in the mountains of Central Idaho and he told me about how he and his friend called themselves “Team Tahoe” or “TT” . . . when either of them cleared a trail they would “mark their spot” (if the log was big enough) with a “TT” accordingly. I know their work is appreciated by “all” users of the single track trails that their clear for good will.

So last weekend, we were clearing a creek bed and came across a large Beech tree that had fallen across the creek. There was no way to get under it, and only Mark would try to go over it, so we decided to get the chainsaw and clear the path. When Jesse completed the sawing he started carving something into the log . . . first a “T” and then a “K” . . . “Team Kentucky”!
I now assume that Jesse’s new protocol on all logs more than 12″ in diameter will be to “mark the spot” on the trail. Let folks know that we’ve “Been there, cleared that”! I’ll have to capture some more photos and see how many we can catalog as we “clear the way”!
See you on the trail!
