Yamaha has not marketed a WR250 since the late 90’s. At that time they made a WR200, WR250, and WR500. The WR500 was their 490 air-cooled engine whereas the others were water-cooled. Each of these bikes had a Wide Ratio (WR) transmission . . . kinda like the “W” in the KTM XC-W lineup.
So why doesn’t Yamaha sell any WR 2-Strokes? We’ll I assume it is because they feel there is no market for such a bike. 5 years ago, I’d agree, but current the resurgence of 2-Strokes may signal that the market is changing. As I referenced in the previous post, Jesse and I have strived to create the modern-day WR for ourselves. His attempt is well-documented below and mine is complete as well.
