It’s time for “Blogger’s Quilt Festival” again. Visit the Blogger’s Quilt Festival at Amy’s Creative Side and be inspired by all the amazing entries! Amy does a wonderful job of pulling all this together twice a year. Many thanks to Amy for all her hard work!!!
I have followed the Blogger’s Quilt Festival for a while and always enjoy seeing all the great quilts and voting on my favorites. I decided to enter 2 quilts this year. My entry for the Large Quilt category is called Scrappy Sawtooth and I would love it if you would vote for my quilt! You will find my other entry here.
The pattern for the Scrappy Sawtooth quilt is by Kaye England; I always love a good scrappy quilt. I had a collection of some beautiful Kaffe Fassett Collective fabrics that I wanted to use in a special project. When I saw the pattern I knew it would be perfect for those beautiful, large print fabrics.
I also loved this quilt because it reminded me of our favorite vacation spot in the Sawtooth Mountain Range in Idaho, so-named due to their steep, jagged peaks. Of course, I had to take a picture of the quilt hanging in front of the Sawtooth Mountains.
When I was planning the quilt I knew I need something to make all the bright Kaffe prints stand out. I decide to use a black that reads as a solid as my background fabric. The squares in the center of the blocks worked well with my large prints. I fussy cut the centers. Here are my favorite blocks in the quilt.
This quilt has a total of 32 full blocks on point; 14 half blocks and 4 corner blocks. The finished quilt measures 56″ x 68″. This quilt is not for the faint of heart with 640 half square triangles that finish to 1 1/2″!!!
This quilt was pieced and quilted by me on my Bernina 440. I chose Brandon Mably’s Bones fabric in green for the back. I love the movement in this print.
For the quilting I did a simple meander. I didn’t want anything to distract from the striking colors and patterns in the quilt. I chose the same black background for the border and binding. This is likely my favorite quilt I have ever made.
I hope you enjoy the Blogger’s Quilt Festival and, don’t forget to vote for my quilts!!!
