Q2 2018 Finish-A-Long

I’m excited to participate in the Q2 2018 Finish-A-Long. This is my second time participating; it is a great motivator to finish up works in progress. It is always great inspiration to see what everyone else is working on and rooting for each other. Thanks to she can quilt and all the great sponsors for this FAL!!!

Here are the quilts I hope to complete this quarter:

1. Disappearing Bento Box Quilt

I designed this quilt based on several tutorials I found online. The Bento Box blocks are fun to make. Each Bento Box block has 2 colors in it. For the method I used I grouped my fabric in pairs. For each fabric pair I made 2 mirror imaged blocks. I cut each block into 4 pieces, mixed them up and sewed them back together. The fabrics I used are all fabrics that I love; fabrics that I have been hoarding for a long time. The fabrics are all designed by Sandy Gervais; some are prints; some are solids. I have all 16 blocks done, just need to sew the top together, quilt and bind the quilt. Here is a picture of the blocks on my design wall:

2. Cartwheels Quilt

This pattern was designed by one of my favorite bloggers and quilt designer, Amanda Jean Nyberg of Crazy Mom Quilts. This is a great strip pieced pattern for jellyrolls. There is an online tutorial for this quilt pattern. I have a jelly roll I purchased the first time I attended the AQS quilt show in Paducah, Kentucky. The fabric line is Spring House by Stephanie Ryan. For the background fabrics I used 2 off white prints. Currently I have my jellyroll, I cut 2 1/2″ strips of my background fabrics and have some fabrics for making a pieced back. I plan on making my quilt a little smaller than the one in the tutorial, the finished size will be 64″ x 64″. Here is a picture of the jellyroll and background fabrics. Now all I have to do is start piecing the strips:

2. Mahalo Quilt

This pattern was designed by Sherri of A Quilting Life. I love the movement in this quilt and the fabrics. I typically don’t buy kits; I like to choose my own fabric combinations. But, in this instance I fell in love with everything about this quilt so I bought the Desert Bloom fabrics for this quilt. The block in this quilt is the Drunkards Path block turned different ways. The bright fabrics in this pattern are cut into wedge shaped and sewn together in sets of 3. So far I have cut my background fabrics into squareas and cut all my colored wedges and started piecing the sets of 3 so I have a LONG way to go to get this done. I am excited to try curved piecing which I haven’t done much. Will be a great learning process! It’s not likely I’ll get this one done this quarter, but I can certainly try and there’s always next quarter if I don’t get it done this quarter. Here is a picture of my cut fabrics and pieced fabrics:
