My New Sewing Room

As you probably know, my stepson Philip, recently moved out to his first apartment. I have had my eye on his room as my perfect sewing room for a while and now the time has arrived.

What a big change to have a HUGE room, measuring 16′ x 14′. I knew it was a large room, but once we got it all cleared out I was amazed at how big it is.

Luckily for me I have a very handy husband who has worked SO hard to get this room together for me. His first task was to create custom shelving in my 2 closets which turned out amazing, see early photo of the shelving in the closets below:

After patching up holes in the dry wall, he spent the week I was gone to Gwen Marston’s retreat painting the closets, doors and walls. What a great thing to come home to! Here are some pics of the room after it was painted.

Now on to the fun, but long task of moving everything. I thought really hard about how to organize all my fabrics. For a little while I was afraid I couldn’t fit all my fabric into the closets which was the goal, but in the end everything fit with room to spare. Here are some photos of the closet organization period.

Here are how my closets ended up.

I love my rainbow color stacks of fabrics. Boy I have a lot of green fabrics!

I am so excited to have all my books on a bookshelf where I can easily get to them. I was also able to display a lot of decorative items I didn’t have room for before. Here are some of my favorite vignettes in my sewing room.

Last weekend we moved all the furniture in. I still have some rearranging to do, but here is a good start. I also still need to move my design wall from my old room and get a peg board to put my rulers, rotary cutters, thread, etc on.
