Q3 2018 Finish-A-Long

I’m excited to participate in the Q3 2018 Finish-A-Long. This is my third time participating; it is a great motivator to finish up works in progress. It is always great inspiration to see what everyone else is working on and rooting for each other. Thanks to she can quilt and all the great sponsors for this FAL!!!

1. Mahalo Quilt

This pattern was designed by Sherri of A Quilting Life. I love the movement in this quilt and the fabrics. I typically don’t buy kits; I like to choose my own fabric combinations. But, in this instance I fell in love with everything about this quilt so I bought the Desert Bloom fabrics for this quilt. The block in this quilt is the Drunkards Path block turned different ways. The bright fabrics in this pattern are cut into wedge shaped and sewn together in sets of 3. Then these sets are curve pieced with the background fabric. So far I have pieced the sets of 3. I am excited to try curved piecing which I haven’t done much. Will be a great learning process! Here is a picture of my cut fabrics and pieced fabrics:

2. Color Dive

This pattern was created by Anna Maria Horner, one of my favorite fabric designers. This pattern contains 5″ squares and 1/2 square triangles in different colors. The Color Dive Quilt is a fun, simple quilt and a gorgeous opportunity to play with your favorite prints and solids. I chose fabrics from my stash for this quilt and even had a great backing fabric in my stash. I currently I have most of this quilt laid out on my design wall (it’s too large to lay it all out). Here is a picture of it:

3. Cactus Blooms

This Fat Quarter friendly pattern was in the January/February 2017 Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting magazine. I have a large stack of Denyse Schmidt’s Flea Market Fancy line and I have been looking for patterns to use the fabrics. I thought this pattern would be great. I found a great background fabric in my stash to add to the mix. I also had enough fabrics for a pieced back. Currently I have all the fabrics cut for this pattern so I am ready to get started piecing. Here is a picture of my fabrics all cut up:
